When was the last time you checked in on your brand? If your answer is “a while ago”, “never”, or “I can’t remember” it is definitely time for a brand audit!

Performing an annual or quarterly brand audit is a great way to make sure that your brand is showing up consistently across all of your marketing endeavors and that your current brand, messaging, and image are accurate to you and your business. What you find on your brand audit will help you determine whether or not your current branding is working for you or whether it’s time to give it a refresh.

Businesses change and evolve over time and as your services, message, and target audience shift, you’ll need to make sure that your branding is updated to match it and that this updated branding is conveyed consistently across all of your marketing platforms.

So how do you perform a brand audit?

✅ Check in on yourself visually.

Are your photos updated? Do your visual marketing materials feel accurate to your company and brand? Write down 5 adjectives that you feel describe how your company is presented visually – does this match what you want your brand to convey?

✅ Check in on your content and messaging.

What words do you see the most often in your written content? If you could give the voice of your content a personality, what kind of personality would it have? Fun? Helpful? Elegant? Does this match how you want your company to sound to your ideal client?

✅ Write down all of the places where your brand shows up.

This is on social media, your website, any advertising, or physically printed materials. Are they consistent? Are they up-to-date? Check-in on your bios, pricing, and services, as well as the value propositions you use when discussing your product or services with your clients. Are these accurate or do they need to be updated?

If you are seeing inconsistencies, inaccuracies, or simply design or content elements that you no longer like, it might be time for a brand refresh.
